The Area around Durness
The area features beautiful white sands, dramatic cliffs and the 'machair' grasslands (unique to the Highlands). The area has a lot to offer and is also a great base for exploring further afield. Walking
There is a wide range of walks in the area, from beach walks right from the cottage, where you have a good chance of spotting wildlife, to more adventurous walks into the hills. You can start to explore the walks in the area at the Walk Highlands website.

Loch Fishing
The four Lochs in the Durness area require a fishing permit which can be obtained from the Keoldale Sheep Stock Club on +44 (0)1971 511 260.
Day tickets for fishing on the Lower River Dionard (pronounced Jennert) which is one of the best salmon fishing rivers in the Highlands can be also be purchased from the Keoldale Sheep Stock Club on +44 (0)1971 511 260.
