The Old Manse Cottage, Durness

The Old Manse Cottage offers luxurious self-contained holiday accommodation in the heart of the Scottish highlands, with comfort and indulgence at its core.

Situated behind the Church of Durness, Old Manse Cottage has its own access and private parking and can accommodate up to four people.

The cottage consists of two superking/twin bedrooms both with balconies and en-suite facilities. Hallway, kitchen/dining room, lounge, downstairs bathroom and patios to either end.

Rooms

Our rooms are comfortable and homely with little hints of luxury. We can cater for superking or twin bed sleeping arrangements. All beds have deep mattresses with feather mattress toppers. All feather bedding is encased in fine cotton linen.There are tea and coffee-making facilities in each room along with a hairdryer for use during your stay.

Old Manse Cottage rooms also have smart TV with Sky Q and electric audio alarms with USB charging points for your devices.

Ensuites

Ensuites offer an oversize shower area, heated towel rail with fluffy towels provided and an assortment of toiletries for you to indulge.

Living Area

Kitchen

A very well-equipped kitchen awaits you with many gadgets available for the cooks and foodies amongst you!

The kitchen has a double oven, fitted microwave, induction hob as well a large slow-cooker for when you're out all day and want to come home to the convenience of an already prepared meal; integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Also available is a steam iron and ironing board tucked away in the cupboard under the stairs.

There is a freestanding coffee machine for the discerning coffee lover!

At the far end of the kitchen is a dining area which leads to a private patio ideal for outside entertaining.

Hallway

Plenty of room for hats and coats with separate hangers for dog leads and accessories. There's also a 'muddy boot' tray where your outside shoes can be kept ready for your next excursion. The downstairs toilet and shower room facilitate the ground floor.

Lounge

The lounge has views out to sea with patio doors leading to a seating area where you can sit and watch the world go by in peace and tranquility.

Centrally heated throughout, Old Manse Cottage is an exceptionally cosy cottage at all times of the year with the advantage of a wood burning stove for use during those extra chilly evenings to really surround you with warmth and comfort.

Bose sound system and smart TV with Sky Q complete the entertainment package as well as unlimited wifi connection should you wish to keep in touch with the outside world!

If your enthusiasm for outdoor activity wanes there's a varied selection of games and books on hand so you can snuggle up and relax at home in front of the fire and enjoy your downtime.

Garden

The garden has patio areas at each end of the property and is enclosed with stock fencing which forms a secure boundary for our four-legged friends. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, with prior consent.

Just behind the cottage is a track that leads straight to Sangomore. Ideal for hillwalking and dog walking - go left for a long walk to Loch Meadie or heading right will take you on a shorter walk to nearby Loch Calladale.

EV Charging

We offer the use of an EV charger on-site for residents' use by arrangement.

What's in a name?

The housing that a church provides for a member of its clergy can be called a Manse  an old-fashioned word used to describe the house a Protestant minister lives in. The word manse, like mansion, comes from the Medieval Latin mansus, "dwelling."
